Historically, Mongolia’s primary foreign investments prior to the 1990s came almost exclusively from Russia due to geopolitical control. Following the transition to a market economy, the investor pool expanded dramatically to include China, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Japan. While these entities initially focused heavily on natural resources, modern investment is increasingly flowing into highly innovative sectors.
