International Women’s Day – Aleena Benish

Have you faced any challenges about inclusion within your career?

I have been quite lucky throughout my career and working at Zeifmans that being a woman has not provided for many challenges. Ten years ago, however, the business world was certainly more male dominated. If I was the only woman in the room, it would also mean I was sometimes overlooked or my opinion was not heard. I’m happy to see that the business world is changing and women are being taken much more seriously and are a driving force for advancement.

How do you encourage inclusion within your team and your firm?

I work within a team at Zeifmans that is very inclusive. I, along with the other managers on my team, have always encouraged inclusivity when looking at prospective candidates to join the firm. I have also provided mentorship in the past and have maintained an open door for individuals to discuss any challenges they face or aspirations they have.

What is the business benefit of inclusion within the professional services sector?

I believe inclusion in the professional realm can facilitate more diversity of perspectives through the different experiences individuals bring to the table. As we are in the business of problem-solving matters for our clients, these perspectives translate into better service and advice. Therefore, we are able to do our jobs better when our team/firm is inclusive.
