International Women’s Day – Olena Voznyuk

Have you faced any challenges about inclusion within your career?

Within my career I haven’t faced any problems with inclusion in terms of equality before the law or educational opportunity, or even in terms of participation in decision making in the professional teams I had the opportunity to be part of. The only challenge I have faced is being simultaneously the mother of junior kinds and the senior-level manager. The former colleagues sometimes did not take into account this status of mine and I had to make a choice, for example, between participation in an urgent meeting with an important Client and going to the doctor with my child. Of course, those conflicts were manageable and my husband or mom could do this instead of myself, but this was a kind of internal moral conflict for me.

How do you encourage inclusion within your team and your firm?

In my team I do encourage inclusion. I try to maintain balance between male and female personnel in my department, between young people (we have students working part-time), and middle-aged staff, we do have several elder persons in our team. People with different personal and professional experience makes our team more diverse. People are happy to share their knowledge and experience. We support each other especially during this difficult war time in Ukraine. We have a joint group in messenger in which each team member drops a few words about how he/she is doing after each massive attack in Ukraine, since our members are living in different locations.

Together with our HR team we try to identify the personal skills of each team member that can be useful for the whole team, and we encourage that these skills are effectively used in the office and improved. I always encourage team members to be proactive and give their ideas what can be improved in our work processes. We have good trust between team members regardless the occupied position – the junior staff can easily reach the senior staff of the team, including the Partner, and discuss any professional issue or client matter.

What is the business benefit of inclusion within the professional services sector?

All of the above described efforts have positive effect on our team, we are very friendly and ready to support each other, we are ready to solve any Client’s matter. Such atmosphere affects our relationship with the Clients, who are also happier to work with the team that works in full cooperation. Such efforts directly affect the productivity of the whole department and each team member.
